Balar Illam
September 16, 2012
Educating a man is to earn for a family, and educating a woman is to educate the family and thereby the nation. One such thing was made by ARTHAM, educating present girl children who are the future women.
Balar illam, a home forgirl students (Class 1st -12th), is located at Thanakankulam, Madurai, consisting of nearly60 students. It was started in 1960s with the aim to educate the poor girl children coming from the nearby villages of Madurai.
The children in the home taken immense care and are brought up with high obedience and good qualities. They are provided with healthy food and environment. Apart from education, the students are involved in sports and other form of activities. They are educated with the values and the ways to lead their life.Mr. Sivabalan, member of ARTHAM came to know about Balar Illam, through Mrs.Mala. He then got through the person in-charge of the home and inquired about the needs of the students in the home. He was informed that the students in the home were in need ofextra coaching for theirbasics in grammar and mathematics. And then it was planned to make over the necessary things.
On 16th September 2k12, we, the ARTHAM, took an initiative of educating the girl students. The ARTHAM members, Kavitha, Meena kumari, Raga divya and Varshiniheaded to the place by around 2.00pm.The students had their quarterly Examination on the next day. Initially, they were grouped according to their classes (6th, 7th, 8th and 9th) and the ARTHAM members made them learn the basics of English grammar and few topics in mathematics.
The event can’t be described as a success. But a seed for a sapling. This is the beginning...let all the little drops make the ocean. Make haste for women education.
